2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee Scheduled Maintenance Overview
The 2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee, the most awarded SUV ever, is offered with two powertrains: the 3.6L Pentastar V6 (293 hp / 260 lb-ft) on Laredo, Limited, Overland, Summit and Summit Reserve in two-row and three-row L form, and the 4xe plug-in hybrid (a 2.0L turbo four-cylinder plus two electric motors, 375 hp / 470 lb-ft) on the two-row Limited 4xe, Trailhawk 4xe, Overland 4xe and Summit 4xe. The 5.7L HEMI V8 was retired after 2024. The two powertrains share one mileage schedule, but oil specs, filters and spark plug intervals differ, and the 4xe adds high-voltage coolant loops. Our Mopar-certified technicians handle both.
Grand Cherokee uses the Stellantis Oil Change Indicator System. Off-road use, towing and short trips all bring the indicator on sooner, and the 2025 owner's manual says to never exceed 10,000 miles, 12 months or 350 engine hours between oil changes. 4xe owners: the 12-month limit applies even if the gas engine has run very few miles, so an annual oil change is required regardless of mileage. Every oil change also includes a tire rotation, battery, brake, cooling system, exhaust and CV joint inspections, and an engine air filter check if you drive on dusty or unpaved roads.

Time-Based Service
Several 2025 Grand Cherokee items are governed by time as well as miles, whichever comes first:
- Engine oil and filter: at least every 12 months even at low mileage (important for 4xe owners who drive mostly on electric power)
- Front suspension, tie rod ends and brake linings: inspect every 20,000 miles or 2 years
- Engine air filter, plus axle and transfer case fluid inspection: every 30,000 miles or 3 years
- PCV valve: replace at 100,000 miles or 10 years
- Transfer case fluid (Mopar ATF+4): change at 120,000 miles or 12 years in normal use; 70,000 and 140,000 miles (or 7 years) in severe use
- Engine coolant and accessory drive belt: flush and replace the Mopar OAT coolant (on the 4xe, the engine, power-electronics and battery loops), replace the belt and inspect the tensioner and pulley at 10 years or 150,000 miles; the manual lists no shorter second interval
- Brake fluid and automatic transmission fluid: the 2025 manual sets no replacement interval for either; DOT 3 brake fluid and the transmission are inspected at every service
Engine-Specific Maintenance Details
The 2025 Grand Cherokee offers two powertrains. The mileage schedule is shared, but the oil is not: the 3.6L Pentastar V6 takes SAE 0W-20 full synthetic (MS-6395) with a Mopar 68191349AC filter, while the 4xe's 2.0L turbo takes SAE 5W-30 full synthetic (MS-13340) with a Mopar 4892339BE filter. Both hold 5.0 quarts with the filter. Spark plugs differ too: the V6's six Mopar SP225755AB plugs last 100,000 miles, while the 4xe's four Mopar 68292346AA plugs are due at 60,000 and 120,000 miles. Both use Mopar ZF 8 & 9 Speed ATF in the TorqueFlite 8-speed, Mopar ATF+4 in the transfer case and Mopar OAT coolant (MS.90032); the 4xe also carries separate power-electronics (5.5 quarts) and battery (5.8 quarts) coolant loops that are dealer-serviced. Get the right oil for your engine.

Off-Road, Towing & 4xe Considerations
Grand Cherokee combines a luxury daily driver with serious off-road capability, and the 4xe adds plug-in hybrid efficiency. Each duty cycle stresses systems differently, and the 2025 manual addresses them: the engine air filter is inspected at every oil change (and replaced as necessary) in dusty or off-road use; front and rear axle fluid is inspected every 30,000 miles and changed under police, taxi, fleet, off-road or frequent-towing use; and transfer case fluid, inspected at 30,000 miles, moves from a 120,000-mile change to 70,000 and 140,000 miles under severe use. No automatic transmission fluid change is listed at any interval. Trailhawk 4xe owners running Pisgah trails and Summit owners towing to Lake Lure fit those severe definitions. On the 4xe, the 17.3-kWh 400-volt battery, the power electronics and the engine each have a coolant loop, all flushed at 10 years or 150,000 miles, and the 12-month oil change limit applies no matter how many electric miles you drive.
- Off-road use accelerates driveline fluid contamination.
- Towing (HEMI up to 7,200 lbs) is severe-duty operation — shorten transmission and oil intervals.
- 4xe owners: annual gas-engine oil change required even with mostly-electric driving.
- After deep water crossings, check engine oil and differential fluids.
- 4xe regenerative braking dramatically extends brake pad life (60,000+ miles typical).
- 5.7L HEMI lifter wear is documented — conservative oil intervals (5,000-7,500 mi) help.
- 4xe 12V battery still needs annual testing — the most overlooked hybrid maintenance.
- If 4xe sits unused for weeks, 12V battery can deplete — consider trickle charger.
Severe & Special Operating Conditions
Stellantis defines severe operating conditions as any of the items below: dusty or off-road driving, frequent trailer towing, and police, taxi or fleet use. Many Grand Cherokee owners in the mountains qualify for at least one, and the 2025 manual shortens specific items accordingly: the engine air filter is inspected at every oil change under dusty or off-road use, axle fluid is changed at the 30,000-mile inspection under heavy use, and transfer case fluid is changed at 70,000 and 140,000 miles instead of 120,000.
- Off-road driving in dust, mud, sand, or water
- Towing — HEMI rated up to 7,200 lbs
- Frequent short trips that prevent engine warm-up
- Heavy stop-and-go traffic
- Three-row L variant family use with full passenger loads
- Sustained mountain grade driving (Western NC routes)
- Operating in dusty or sandy conditions
- Extreme cold weather (below 0°F) or extreme heat (above 100°F)

Service for 2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee Owners Across Western NC
Grand Cherokee owners across Western NC face a mix of conditions: daily driving around Brevard, longer trips to Asheville, Hendersonville and Waynesville, off-road use in Pisgah National Forest and weekend tows up to Lake Lure. 4xe owners often commute on electric power and tow on weekends, which is exactly why the annual oil change still matters. Mountain grades stress brakes, which is why the manual has them inspected at every oil change and the linings checked at 20,000 miles. Our Mopar-certified team understands every 2025 Grand Cherokee duty cycle.
Monthly & Semi-Annual Owner Checks
Between scheduled service visits, a few quick owner checks help catch problems before they become repairs. These take only a couple of minutes and apply to every 2025 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
- Tire pressure — check monthly; before every tow trip; after every off-road run.
- Engine oil level — check every 2-3 fuel fill-ups.
- Coolant level — verify monthly.
- Brake fluid level — check the master cylinder reservoir monthly.
- Washer fluid — top off as needed.
- 4xe 12V battery — schedule annual testing; the most overlooked PHEV service.
- Charge port and cable (4xe) — inspect monthly.
- Tire sidewalls and tread — inspect monthly.
