2027 Ram 1500 Scheduled Maintenance Overview

The 2027 Ram 1500 lineup spans seven engines: the 3.6L Pentastar V6 eTorque, the 5.7L HEMI V8 eTorque, the 420-hp 3.0L Hurricane Standard Output, the 540-hp Hurricane High Output (RHO, Limited Longhorn, Limited, Tungsten), and, new for 2027, the non-eTorque 5.7L HEMI in the Rumble Bee, the 6.4L HEMI V8 in the Rumble Bee 392 and the 777-hp 6.2L supercharged HEMI V8 in the TRX SRT and Rumble Bee SRT. The schedule below comes from the 2027 owner's manual, which covers the Pentastar, Hurricane and 5.7L engines; Ram has not yet published a service plan for the 6.4L and supercharged 6.2L. Our Mopar-certified team handles them all.

The 2027 Ram 1500 uses the Stellantis Oil Change Indicator System, and the manual says to never exceed 10,000 miles, 12 months or 350 engine hours between oil changes. What's new for 2027: the plan returns to 10,000-mile / 1-year steps, 3.6L and 5.7L spark plugs move to 100,000 miles, a rear-door net block gap inspection is added at 30,000 miles, and the First Edition manual has no separate 6,000-mile RHO section, so the RHO follows the single 2027 plan (confirm with our advisors, as a later edition may add one). Towing, heavy payload and mountain grades all bring the indicator on sooner.

Engine-Specific Maintenance Details

The 2027 Ram 1500 offers seven engines. The Pentastar V6, both 5.7L HEMIs and the Hurricane Standard Output use SAE 0W-20 (MS-6395) full synthetic, while the Hurricane High Output requires SAE 0W-40 (MS-A0921) and 91-octane fuel. The 5.7L takes 7 quarts with the filter, the Hurricanes 7.5 quarts, and the Pentastar 5 quarts per the owner's manual. The new V8s also run 0W-40: 7.0 quarts in the 6.4L HEMI and 7.9 quarts in the 6.2L supercharged HEMI, both on 91 octane, with full service plans and part numbers still to be published by Ram. Every engine uses Mopar ZF 8 & 9 Speed ATF in its 8-speed automatic. Get the right oil for your engine.

Towing, Payload & RHO Performance Maintenance

The Ram 1500 is built to work. Frequent trailer towing (the 2027 RHO is rated up to 8,370 pounds and the Rumble Bee up to 8,890 pounds), heavy payload and off-road performance duty all stress the powertrain, and Ram's 2027 plan reflects that: axle fluid is changed at the 30,000-mile inspection for police, taxi, fleet, off-road or frequent-towing use; transfer case fluid is inspected at 30,000 miles under heavy use and at 60,000 and 120,000 miles, changed for severe use (every 4x4 changes it at 120,000). No automatic transmission fluid change is listed for the Ram 1500 at any interval. The TRX SRT, Rumble Bee SRT and Rumble Bee use full-time four-wheel drive, so their transfer cases work every mile. Western NC owners typically use a Ram 1500 for a mix of daily driving, towing and off-road duty, so tell our advisors how you use your truck.

  • Towing 10,000+ lbs is severe-duty operation — oil change at 5,000-7,500 miles, transmission fluid at 30,000-60,000 miles.
  • 5.7L HEMI lifter wear is documented — conservative oil intervals (5,000-7,500 mi) help.
  • RHO Hurricane HO owners: aggressive driving accelerates oil breakdown. Change at 5,000-7,500 miles when driven hard.
  • After heavy off-road runs, wash undercarriage and inspect skid plates.
  • Heavy payload accelerates suspension and tire wear — inspect after every loaded run.
  • Trailer brake controller and 7-pin harness inspection at every tow trip.
  • Cold-start operation in winter stresses Hurricane turbo bearings — allow brief warm-up.
  • eTorque mild-hybrid auxiliary battery needs periodic inspection alongside main battery.

Severe & Special Operating Conditions

Stellantis defines severe operating conditions as any of the items below: dusty or off-road driving, frequent trailer towing, police, taxi or fleet use, and extended idling. Most Ram 1500 owners in the mountains qualify for at least one, and the 2027 manual shortens specific items accordingly: the engine air cleaner is inspected at every oil change in dusty or off-road use, the evaporative system fresh-air filter is inspected in severe dust, axle fluid is changed at the 30,000-mile inspection under heavy use, and transfer case fluid is changed for severe use at 60,000 and 120,000 miles.

  • Towing — Ram 1500 rated up to 12,750 lbs
  • Heavy payload (up to 2,300 lbs on some configurations)
  • RHO aggressive driving or off-road desert running
  • Frequent short trips that prevent engine warm-up
  • Heavy stop-and-go traffic
  • Sustained mountain grade driving (Western NC routes)
  • Operating in dusty conditions or gravel forest roads
  • Extreme cold weather (below 0°F) or extreme heat (above 100°F)

Service for 2027 Ram 1500 Owners Across Western NC

Ram 1500 owners across Western NC use these trucks for a remarkable mix of work and play: commuting around Brevard, towing campers and boats up to Lake Lure, hauling materials around Asheville and Hendersonville, running forest roads in Pisgah, and weekend trips toward Waynesville and the Smokies. Mountain grades stress brakes. Towing stresses the transmission and cooling system. A 777-horsepower TRX SRT stresses everything. Our Mopar-certified service team handles every 2027 Ram 1500 duty cycle.

Monthly & Semi-Annual Owner Checks

Between scheduled service visits, a few quick owner checks help catch problems before they become repairs. These take only a couple of minutes and apply to every 2027 Ram 1500.

  • Tire pressure — check monthly; before every tow trip; after every off-road run.
  • Engine oil level — check every 2-3 fuel fill-ups; HEMI and Hurricane engines benefit from monitoring.
  • Coolant level — verify monthly.
  • Transmission fluid level (when accessible) — check periodically for towing-heavy use.
  • Brake fluid level — check the master cylinder reservoir monthly.
  • Trailer hitch and electrical connections — inspect at each tow trip.
  • Visual underbody check — look for fluid leaks, damaged skid plates after off-road or heavy work use.
  • Battery terminals — inspect every 6 months; eTorque trucks have an auxiliary battery too.
Note on Pricing: Ram 1500 service pricing varies by engine. The Hurricane High Output, 6.4L HEMI and supercharged 6.2L all take 0W-40, so RHO, Limited, Longhorn, Tungsten, TRX SRT and Rumble Bee 392 or SRT oil changes cost more than a Pentastar V6 service, and the 5.7L HEMI's 16 spark plugs make its 100,000-mile plug service a bigger job than a six-cylinder's. Heavy-tow customers should ask about severe-duty axle and transfer case service. Call (828) 492-2121 for engine-specific quotes.
