2026 Ram 1500 Scheduled Maintenance Overview
The 2026 Ram 1500 lineup has the broadest engine range in the half-ton segment: the proven 3.6L Pentastar V6 eTorque, the returning 5.7L HEMI V8 eTorque, the 420-hp 3.0L Hurricane Standard Output, and the 540-hp Hurricane High Output in Limited Longhorn, Limited, Tungsten and the RHO performance truck. Each engine has distinct oil specs, capacities and filter part numbers, and the RHO follows its own shorter plan. Our Mopar-certified team handles them all.
The 2026 Ram 1500 uses the Stellantis Oil Change Indicator System. The 2026 owner's manual lays the schedule out in 7,500-mile / 12-month steps and says to never exceed 10,000 miles, 12 months or 350 engine hours between oil changes. The RHO plan is stricter: 6,000 miles or 6 months maximum, and 4,000 miles or 350 hours in dusty, off-road or heavy-idle use. Towing up to 11,320 pounds with the HEMI, heavy payload and mountain grades all bring the indicator on sooner.

Time-Based Service
Several 2026 Ram 1500 items are governed by time as well as miles, whichever comes first:
- Brake fluid (DOT 3): change every 24 months regardless of mileage
- Engine oil and filter: at least every 12 months even at low mileage (RHO: every 6 months)
- Front suspension, tie rod ends, brake linings and parking brake adjustment: every 15,000 miles or 24 months
- Engine air filter: replace every 30,000 miles or 48 months
- Engine coolant: flush and replace Mopar OAT coolant at 10 years or 150,000 miles; the manual lists no shorter second interval
Engine-Specific Maintenance Details
The 2026 Ram 1500 offers four distinct powertrains. The mileage schedule is largely shared, but oil viscosity, capacity and filter part numbers differ: the Pentastar V6, 5.7L HEMI and Hurricane Standard Output all use SAE 0W-20 (MS-6395) full synthetic, while the Hurricane High Output requires SAE 0W-40 (MS-A0921) and 91-octane fuel. The HEMI takes 7 quarts with the filter, both Hurricanes 7.5 quarts, and the Pentastar 5 quarts per the owner's manual. The 3.0L oil filter is now Mopar 68683357AA (superseding 68466307AB). Get the right oil for your engine.

Towing, Payload & RHO Performance Maintenance
The Ram 1500 is built to work. Heavy towing (up to 11,320 pounds with the 5.7L HEMI V8 eTorque and 11,550 pounds with the Hurricane Standard Output, properly equipped), heavy payload and the RHO's off-road performance duty all stress the powertrain, and Ram's 2026 plan reflects that: axle fluid is changed at the 30,000-mile inspection for police, taxi, fleet, off-road or frequent-towing use; transfer case fluid is inspected at 30,000 miles under heavy use and at 60,000 and 120,000 miles, changed for fleet or frequent-towing use (every 4x4 changes it at 120,000); and the RHO drains and refills its transfer case every 30,000 miles. No automatic transmission fluid change is listed for the Ram 1500 at any interval. Western NC owners typically use a Ram 1500 for a mix of daily driving, towing and off-road duty, so tell our advisors how you use your truck.
- Towing 10,000+ lbs is severe-duty operation — oil change at 5,000-7,500 miles, transmission fluid at 30,000-60,000 miles.
- 5.7L HEMI lifter wear is documented — conservative oil intervals (5,000-7,500 mi) help.
- RHO Hurricane HO owners: aggressive driving accelerates oil breakdown. Change at 5,000-7,500 miles when driven hard.
- After heavy off-road runs, wash undercarriage and inspect skid plates.
- Heavy payload accelerates suspension and tire wear — inspect after every loaded run.
- Trailer brake controller and 7-pin harness inspection at every tow trip.
- Cold-start operation in winter stresses Hurricane turbo bearings — allow brief warm-up.
- eTorque mild-hybrid auxiliary battery needs periodic inspection alongside main battery.
Severe & Special Operating Conditions
Stellantis defines severe operating conditions as any of the items below: dusty or off-road driving, frequent trailer towing, police, taxi or fleet use, sustained high speed, and extended idling or low-rpm operation. Most Ram 1500 owners in the mountains qualify for at least one, and the 2026 manual shortens specific items accordingly: the evaporative system fresh-air filter is inspected in severe dust, axle fluid is changed at the 30,000-mile inspection under heavy use, transfer case fluid is inspected at 30,000 miles for heavy usage, and the RHO drops to a 4,000-mile or 350-hour oil change in severe duty.
- Towing — Ram 1500 rated up to 12,750 lbs
- Heavy payload (up to 2,300 lbs on some configurations)
- RHO aggressive driving or off-road desert running
- Frequent short trips that prevent engine warm-up
- Heavy stop-and-go traffic
- Sustained mountain grade driving (Western NC routes)
- Operating in dusty conditions or gravel forest roads
- Extreme cold weather (below 0°F) or extreme heat (above 100°F)

Service for 2026 Ram 1500 Owners Across Western NC
Ram 1500 owners across Western NC use these trucks for a remarkable mix of work and play: commuting around Brevard, towing campers and boats up to Lake Lure, hauling materials around Asheville and Hendersonville, running forest roads in Pisgah, and weekend trips toward Waynesville and the Smokies. Mountain grades stress brakes. Towing stresses the transmission and cooling system. RHO performance driving stresses everything, which is why Ram gives it a shorter plan. Our Mopar-certified service team handles every 2026 Ram 1500 duty cycle.
Monthly & Semi-Annual Owner Checks
Between scheduled service visits, a few quick owner checks help catch problems before they become repairs. These take only a couple of minutes and apply to every 2026 Ram 1500.
- Tire pressure — check monthly; before every tow trip; after every off-road run.
- Engine oil level — check every 2-3 fuel fill-ups; HEMI and Hurricane engines benefit from monitoring.
- Coolant level — verify monthly.
- Transmission fluid level (when accessible) — check periodically for towing-heavy use.
- Brake fluid level — check the master cylinder reservoir monthly.
- Trailer hitch and electrical connections — inspect at each tow trip.
- Visual underbody check — look for fluid leaks, damaged skid plates after off-road or heavy work use.
- Battery terminals — inspect every 6 months; eTorque trucks have an auxiliary battery too.
